Queen Elizabeth’s Christmas message is topping the list of most viewed Christmas events, with over eight million viewers on Christmas Day.
Queen Elizabeth’s Christmas message 2016 views had an increase of about 600,000 when compared with her message in 2015.
In this year’s Queen Elizabeth’s Christmas message, she talked about the need for ordinary people to inspire the nation as well as the world’s problems.
The Queen Elizabeth’s Christmas message was reportedly viewed by 5.2 million people in BBC. And the address had more than 2.9 million people on ITV, totaling 8.1. While about 73,000 people viewed Queen Elizabeth’s Christmas message on Sky News.
Radio Times also confirmed the rise in the number as it’s editor States: “The world has been a tumultuous place in 2016 and in tumultuous times people turn to symbols of continuity for reassurance…“We might have seen some of that. It’s very, very interesting that [the figures] have gone up this year.”
Second on the list was Strictly Come Dancing special Christmas episode for head judge Len Goodman.
Apart from Queen Elizabeth’s Christmas message, Len Goodman final appearance on the show had the highest viewing figures of any single programme having about 7.2 million viewers.
Third on the list was the valedictory theme of The Great Christmas Bake Off with 6.3 million viewers. The show is moving over to Channel 4 and Mary Berry, Paul Hollywood, Sue Perkins and Mel Giedroyc all made their last appearance together during the Christmas episode.
While the BBC One ‘Mrs Brown’s Boys’, ranked fourth with 6.13m viewers. Fifth was ITV Coronation Street, with 6.12m viewers followed by the BBC One ‘ Call the Midwife’ with 6.06million viewers.
Meanwhile, in the overall, BBC maintained its Christmas Day dominance, broadcasting eight of the ten most popular programs.
Whilst ITV won 18.7% share of the audience, its best Christmas ever since 2013.
