A woman named Molasses Jones has dragged the reality show – American Idol producers to the cleaners.
Jones made the claim that American Idol producers stole her song and at the end she never got anything in return.
Jones alleged that she wrote Jordin Sparks “No Air” adding that American Idol producers somehow got access to her private journals and stole lyrics she had written long before Jordin joined the show.
In a new legal document filed by Jones, she is asking for $ 24 million compensation, being part of the money the television reality show made from the said song in contention – “No Air”.
According to Molasses Jones, “American Idol” producers are a sleazy, money-hogging bunch who made MILLIONS off the back of one songwriter who never got her cut”.
As if that was not enough, Molasses is also making a case for other pop tunes among which are “No One” and “Single Ladies.” And investigation revealed that she was not credited as a writer on any of the tracks in question.
However, the reality show is yet to react to the claims.
We also know that American Idol has produced superstars like Jordin Sparks, Jennifer Hudson, Carrie Underwood, Ruben Studdard among others.
And the first series of American Idol had 9.9 million viewers which gave FOX an edge over other television networks.
The show got to its peak in season five with the number of viewers rising to an average of 30.6 million per episode and this season remains the highly- rated season.
Meanwhile, this year (2016) FOX announced American Idol 2016 will be the final year of the network’s long-running reality TV singing competition. After more than a decade of entertaining fans across the world, American Idol 15 will be the last season.
During the season and series grand finale, the top two finalists La’Porsha Renae and Trent Harmon competed for viewers’ votes and at the end Trent Harmon was voted as the winner of American Idol 2016.
